The original New Orleans brass band innovators are the Dirty Dozen, with whom I spent a couple of days photographing for Columbia Records in the early 1990's. With their residency at the Glass House uptown attracting the likes of David Byrne, the Dirty Dozen was expanding their global audience while playing exciting takes on traditional and modern jazz standards and staying true to their roots. The bird-finger mute shown here belongs to founding member, Gregory Davis.
