If you believe, as I do, that Fats Domino's "The Fat Man" was the first real rock 'n roll HIT then you'll have no problem giving props to Champion Jack Dupree as it was his "Junker's Blues" that Fats drew upon, Dave Bartholomew jacked up with the "big beat", and marched right into rock 'n roll history. This image was made at (the late) Ultrasonic Studios on Washington Avenue. Champion Jack regaled us with tales of playing in the cane field chitlin' circuit roadhouses "back of Donaldsonville and Thibodaux" which also happens to be my homeland. - R.O.
